Bikes of Copenhagen

Who hasn’t had a bike?  I loved mine – bright red, shiny and purchased just for me when I was 12.  It was brand new.  A small miracle in a time and place when families were large and the youngest among us were rarely the first owners of anything.  I rode it until, in the late 60’s, it became decidely uncool to be seen on such a relic.  Other than a brief flurry of fitness in my mid 20’s, my biking days were long over by the time I purchased my first car at 25.

None of this explains my facination with the bikes and bike riders in Denmark.  But facinated I was.  Not only does everyone appear to have a bike for the practical matter of transportation, many appear to use them as a 2 wheeled expression of their artistic soul.  I couldn’t resist taking pictures of one or two every day the old ladies were in Denmark.  Below are a few of my favourite bicycle snapshots.

Tip: If picture taking is a big part of your trips, try picking a subject common in the area that makes you smile.  For me it was Danish bikes.  What would it be for you?

Would you hitch a ride on this seat?

I wonder who rides in front.

Even in a crowd, a shiny red bike always stands out!
