Irish Sheep

What is it that makes sheep so appealing?  As  children, we were introduced to them in nursery rhymes.  Later we were told to count them as a cure for insomnia. For a brief, misguided period in the 80’s, stuffed and tole painted sheep adorned at least one surface in everybody’s house. What were we thinking?!

All these things came back to me while driving through the Irish countryside.  Sheep were everywhere.  Beside the roads, on the roads and dotting distant fields.

As we were there in spring, lambs were tearing madly around everywhere, chasing ewes for milk, poking through fences for the proverbial greener grass and on one occasion,  running like lemmings toward a cliff edge only to stop abruptly  within metres of the drop and resume grazing.  Phew!

We were endlessly entertained by them, so taking pictures of “the sheep of the day” became an activity.  Here are a few results.
